New Building Activity Planned

Monday 23rd of January 2012

It has been brought to The Mayor's attention that a big construction project is going to be underway in the Westmoreland neighborhood in 2012. The folks that bought the mortuary property several years back are now ready to redevelop this property. Luckily the redevelopment plans will keep the historic building on the property with additional condos constructed on the remaining space. The Woods, a bar and night spot for entertainment is no longer in the original building but the developers are planning on redoing the space into offices. For more information on this new project just go to: 20 Condo Project in Westmoreland

This will provide our neighborhood businesses a place to post timely information about what is happening. Events, sales or just interesting information will be available on our new Facebook page.

So take a moment to check it out. The Mayor would be so happy if you did.

The Monsters Will Be Marching With Style

Saturday 15th of October 2011

The 11th Annual Monster March will be happening in our Westmoreland neighborhood on Sunday, October 30 at 3pm. Last year they created a fabulous t-shirt from the Monster March poster artwork done by Sellwood artist Gary Hirsch. They sold out almost immediately. The Mayor was lucky to be able to proudly wear one. We will definitely be buying a couple this week. If you are interested in getting the 2011 Monster March t-shirt just go to Monster March 2011

See you at the March in your Monster March t-shirt!

The City That Does Work

Sunday 4th of September 2011

The Mayor just got a report from SE 17th & Umatilla that the "City that Works" is actually working in our neighborhood. The businesses in this area of SE 17th have been complaining for months about the horrible smell that comes up in the afternoons via the sewer. Portland sewer workers just installed a one-way flap on the storm drain and while they were at it, plugs in the man-hole cover. Thanks Portland

Keep Smiling

Our Neighborhood in the NY Times!!!

Monday 29th of August 2011

It looks like the New York Times has finally discovered Portland. In the Sunday, August 28th Travel section of the paper is the article "36 Hours Portland Oregon". Guess what? Westmoreland is mentioned as a "hot" spot when visiting Portland. Congrats to Cosmo Lounge, The Woods, Corkscrew Wine Bar & Stars Antiques Malls.

Take a look for yourself. Look at the 11pm section.

Have a Great Day!

Stamping Your Way Thru Passport

Tuesday 2nd of August 2011

Well it is time again for the Sellwood Westmoreland Passport Event. The stamping starts and finishes this coming Saturday, August 6th. But The Mayor knows about a couple of tricks for getting more stamps if you know where to go. But more on that later.

There will be plenty of sales and deals throughout the neighborhoods on Saturday but you might think about stopping in at Papa Murphy's Pizza in Westmoreland. They will giving free samples along with a great coupon deal.

The Mayor will be sure to head down to South Sellwood along SE 17th Avenue to check out Passport Village. Quite a few businesses will be set up there along with Curbside Grill for eats and The Oregonian's huge blow up puppy TheO.

Hint #1 for getting a lot of stamps in one place. Passport Village

Then we will be making our way to the Community Health Fair at the Boys & Girls Club in Westmoreland. Not only will there be free health screenings, $5 bike helmets and a teddy bear clinic but they will be hosting a WATER SLIDE!!!! How did they know that The Mayor LOVES water slides.

Hint #2 Head to the Community Health Fair for plenty of stamping opportunities

Did you know that the Grand, Grand Prize is a weekend for two at The Resort at the Mountain along with golf for two and two 50 minute spa treatments? It would probably not look right if The Mayor won that prize. Darn.

Hint #3 This year there will be something called KABOOM stamps. These top secret stamps will be worth 3 regular stamps. We would suggest that you might try some of the more out of the way shops and services that are participating in Passport this year. You might just get KABOOMED.

In previous years the Passport Event ended just about 5pm but not this year. Passport After Hours will extend Passport into the late evening. For a complete list of the restaurants, food carts and wineshops, bars & taverns just take a look at your Passport Book or go to www.sellwoodwestmoreland.com/passport

Hint #4 with a food purchase at any of the participating Passport After Hours you will get 2 stamps.

Happy Stamping!!!

The Mayor

Hollywood Comes to the Neighborhood

Wednesday 6th of July 2011

Looks like Leverage is back in the neighborhood filming. The whole caravan was spotted up at Reed College doing their thing. The Mayor loves to watch this TV program and try to spot places in Portland. But why do they have to make us into Boston? Portland is so much better.

Look Up

Tuesday 26th of April 2011

Next time you are driving into the Sellwood, Westmoreland and 17th Avenue neighborhoods be sure and look up. Our new colorful banners have been hung, greeting one and all.

The Sellwood Westmoreland Business Alliance with the help of the City of Portland have created these banners to ask you to Discover and Explore our neighborhoods. One more reason for The Mayor to be proud.

Hollywood Comes to the Neighborhood

Saturday 9th of April 2011

TNT's Leverage has been shooting their weekly television series in Portland for several years now. But it still causes quite a stir when they show up in Portland's various neighborhoods. It seems that the Leverage crew will be filming in Sellwood on April 12th.

The Mayor was informed that during the filming gun shots will be heard. We guess that it is standard policy to let everyone living in the area know this.

The location for this shoot is SE Lambert between 9th and 11th. They will also be at SE Malden & Bidwell.

Just thought you should know

Have a Great Day!

The Mayor

P.S. When is the sun going to shine next?
